Introducing: Backpack Battle Buddies
Today your journey begins. Today you get your first Buddy. You’ve been waiting your whole life to start your adventure, to strap on your high-tech backpack, and to find and befriend the most powerful (and most cuddly) Buddy you can. This is Backpack Battle Buddies (BBB) and your adventure begins here!
BBB is the first ever MicroRPG from Knight Theory Games. It was created by our lead designer Nick Walker and is inspired by popular monster catching games. Unlike other games, in BBB you have one monster. And they’re not just used for battling other Buddies, they’re also your friend. You don’t need to catch all of them, you just need one: Your Best Buddy.
BBB uses a simple d6 roll for attempting actions and a rock-paper-scissors style system for combat. It is an excellent starter game for players that are new to tabletop RPG’s and it leaves a lot of room for roleplaying and creativity. With 3-6 players and a game master you can tell your own monster catcher story. You can find it on the Store page with our other MicroRPG’s.
“You walk down the well-worn dirt path, the straps of your backpack digging into your shoulders as the weight of it settles. The sun is hot, beating down on you as you walk, but you don’t mind. This is what you’ve been waiting for. You look down at your companion, a small blue ape-like creature with water filled bubbles on its back. It tilts its head to the side and has a sudden realization.”
“SMACK! You are stunned by a burst of water hitting you in the face. Not hard, not enough to hurt, but surprising. And the cool water feels so refreshing in the heat. The little blue ape laughs and does a joyful dance, pleased with its mischief. Its already pulled another water bubble from its back and is ready to throw.”
"“Oh, you’ve done it now.” You quickly snatch one of the bubbles too and hop back, ready to attack. You continue down the road, tossing bubbles back and forth, cooling off as they burst, until someone else appears standing at the side of the path. A large red bird with fire in its eyes sits on their shoulder.”
“They look up. You make eye contact. Its time to battle.”
