Introducing: Anima Blade
The ground beneath the warrior trembles as they scale the snowy mountain peak. Just a few more steps and they’ll reach the top. Just a few more steps and they’ll face the dragon. Every step sends pain shooting up their leg, wounded in their fight with the Tiger. They blink away the snow and are reminded of the battle with the Demon that nearly took their eye. All of these defeated foes cry out from within their blade. It can’t wait to fight. The Dragon awaits.
Anima Blade is the second MicroRPG from Knight Theory Games. It was created by our lead designer Nick Walker and aims to give players a chance to experience the memories of a legendary warrior as they retell the battles that made them a legend. What fantastic and terrifying enemies did they fight? What gave them those scars? And will they survive the fight with the Dragon?
Anima Blade uses 2d6 to play through memories of the battles that forged the sword. Players take turns being the Warrior and the Adversaries, rolling dice and describing the battle as they fight. Players rotate through this sequence, until each of them has played as an Adversary that has been defeated by the Warrior. Then they work together in the final fight against the Dragon, using what they learned in the previous battles. You can find this game on the Store page with our other MicroRPG’s.
“Player 1: The Warrior walks forward through the rain, slowly at first but then picking up speed. Each stride taking them up off the ground, feet stepping up on the air like climbing an invisible staircase. They ready their blade, flicking it out to the side and cutting through the falling water. The massive Eagle is surprised. It wasn’t prepared for this. They swing the blade in a wide arc.”
“ROLL: 2d6 = 7 Total. The attack is successful but the Warrior becomes vulnerable.”
“Player 2: The blade slashes across the Eagle’s back, cutting a deep gash. The Eagle dives down toward the surface of the lake, falling through the rain, before curving back up toward the Warrior. They landed a blow, but left themselves open. The Eagle screeches and buries its talons in the Warrior’s back.”
“ROLL: 2d6 = 11 Total. The attack is very successful.”
“Player 3: Both combatants hold their wounds and circle for another attack. The Warrior charges through the air with gliding steps and the Eagle swoops in. Blood drips with the rain, staining the lake red. Their battle rages on.”
